Thanks to Battery Powered Laptops I am able to continue with my afternoon plans here, despite the fact that our Delmarva Power source for electricity has just failed...and thank goodness it's not still in the uppper 90's, like it was on Monday and Tuesday. Amazing how it can feel "cool" at 85.
Things at the "Mill" are moving right along, as some of the following pictures will attest. Mostly de-construction, but some framing-in and such as well. We will be meeting with Calvin (remember him?) next week to go over some of our specific needs. And wants. He's got his hands full but hopefully he will be able to work with us and have the answers to some of our questions.
Our meeting with Randy Landlord/Accountant went very well. Sometimes he put on his Landlord Hat and some times his Accountant Hat. We speak the same language, in many respects, and of course we all want this restaurant to succeed.
Summer here in Kent County has been spectacular. The corn is Tall and Green, very Green. And there is A Lot Of It. The same goes for the soybeans. But somehow the corn just looks more impressive - Height means Might? And all the little roadside "flowers" (some call them weeds I suppose) are really starting to bloom - most recently the Queen Anne's Lace, which is such a miracle of nature, that perfectly symetrical pattern. We traveled to Fauquier County in Virginia last week, to visit that Temple of Gastronomy, the Inn at Little Washington, and it was pretty beautiful out there too. Those Shenandoahs are not available here on the Eastern Shore and they generally lend a certain distinction to the Virginia vistas. We could move to Warrenton - where we stayed at a Local HoJoMo - with it's stately houses and views of the Mountains as advertised in all the real estate ads. Dinner at "the Inn", as it is rather presumptuously known, was a lot of fun. The food was...well, it was very good of course but I don't think it was ground-breaking or earth-shattering or really even worth the total price of admission. All the little perks and amenities help ease the pain of the (hand written) bill, and of course the People Watching is prime. We had a wonderful time and we celebrated happily: 10 years of marriage, 20 years of business together, and 102 years of life between us. Hip Hip Hurray!
