...and it's cold. Finally we're getting a little seasonal weather. Hopefully all those bad bugs will freeze and the pipes won't.
We got shut out of the Alcohol Awareness Training Class we thought we would be taking this week - apparently our registration did not appear in time at Mr. Stetson's office, and we will have to try again when the next class is scheduled in March. We can only hope this doesn't interfere with the Liquor License application process, a project into which we plan to jump headfirst next week. We have to get ten signatures from registered voters and property owners who live in the same precinct as the Mill. This will involve knocking on a few doors and "meeting the neighbors" which is never a bad thing. And soon we are going to start a bit of pre-opening publicity, build some buzz, create some gossip (which isn't hard to do in this area!) Maybe a teaser ad in the KCN. Not because we need to be talked about - we don't - but because I think advertising is an important link for a business where the best (or worst) is free: word of mouth. And since we basically have no "word of mouth" except speculation via the progress everyone can witness at the Mill on High Street, I want to direct those "mouths" to go where I want them to go, either to this Blog (silly as it seems sometimes) or to the so-called Web Page. I seem to be all about Internet Communication anymore, from my WebPage Design class to Craigslist, from Big Tray to eBay. I realize that there's a sizable population out there without Computer access or skills or both, whom this medium will not reach, but they will be reached by other means, eventually. Until then, I say go cyber.
And the building is really coming along...at least that's what everyone perceives! We personally want to see a roof going up on our end before we start getting too excited. I'm going to post a few pictures, including some very exciting ones of pipes sticking up out of the un-poured kitchen floor...bet you can't wait!! But it is happening folks, and we couldn't be more ready to get back to it. We have a lot of ideas we want to share with our customers and we are getting more and more agitated to be back in the Kitchen and the Dining Room again. Could it become reality in four or six or eight more weeks? Stay tuned!
Meanwhile, our friend Vickie Quimby is opening her own place this week and we are thrilled for her. We worked with Vickie for many (many) years when we had the Ironstone Cafe and she remains one of the best Dining Room people we've ever known. She'll be opening the Crossfire Cafe on Cross Street in C'town this week, with an ambitious young chef at the helm, who seems to have some very exciting plans for the dining public. I'm sure she's nervous as all get-out, so show her some support (and some understanding!) these first few weeks!
Almost an hour has gone by - well, maybe I'll post those pictures another time...there seem to be some issues with my Hello Software and since it's Saturday afternoon everything is moving verrryyy sllllooowwwly through the aforementioned cyberspace. I Just Don't Have Time For This. See you later (I hope).
