We had a most delicious dinner at the Kennedyville Inn last night. It is certainly a wonderful thing to live five minutes from what could certainly be considered the best food in Kent County, if not even the entire Eastern Shore. Of course, we haven't eaten dinner at the Hotel Imperial since the new owners/chef have taken charge there, and we've heard mostly positive reports, but honestly, Glenn is good. We found our usual places at the bar - it was busy in there! - and Katherine took charge of us. We started out with the Oyster Stew with Crispy Bacon ---a perfect rendition of this Maryland classic. After this we shared the Spinach Salad with Miso and orange Vinaigrette---sort of Asian inspired, with a sprinkling of black sesame seeds and nice, tender baby spinach. My Mahi-mahi, besides being lovely to look at, possibly one of the most attractive presentations I have seen in a while, came with a wonderfully light Citrus beurre blanc, segments of rosy Grapefruit and orange, a little fennel and a tasty wedge of au gratin Potatoes. Kevin headed straight for the Poussin---a roasted half baby Chicken served with a meat glaze, spinach, and a very decadent side of mac 'n cheese: actually orrechietta 'n taleggio, to be specific. It was Tasty. I had no room for dessert, so Kevin took charge there - it is not easy to pass on Jason's desserts - and had two. First course---the soon to be famous Chocolate Parfait, with chocolate cake, Raspberries, Chocolate Mousse. This was followed by the Pecan Banana Up-side down cake, with a sweet side of Rum Raisin Ice Cream...woo mama, very Nice! Jason is good also!! And not just with those desserts - he has also put together a most interesting Wine list, full of very intriguing bottles and some terrific options by the glass. Just by looking at his List I can see the work that goes into offering such a varied and unusual selection - none of those "big box" wines at the KVI! Jason and Glen have really developed a strong wine program, and I think they have created a healthy niche for themselves in the area, with wine Dinners for a group of lucky diners held regularly upstairs. Glenn's Food, Jason's Desserts and Wine Selections - it's the Real Deal. We are so fortunate that they are here! and wish them continued success in the years to come. We are hoping they will be among the Charter Members of the Blue Dome Hospitality Association...
