An exciting week at 870 High Street – the roof is up, the roof is up!! This means business! We are getting very excited. We haven't started bossing each other around too much, but things are going to be getting very, very stressful in the next few weeks. The bar stools are here, the built-in furniture (remember Mr. Kaplan?) is on order, our POS system has a deposit on it, we've got 9 signatures on our liquor license application, and our web page is about half built. We'll be meeting with potential employees before you know it, and that's when I'll know it's really happening - when you start involving other people, you are committed. It's one of my favorite parts about the business of operating a business, and of course it's one of the most difficult and trying. Every self-employed person has their stories to tell. We've had some extremely positive experiences; we count several past Employees as current Friends. But of course there's always two sides to every story...we love to talk about the guy who went out to move his car from the customer lot just before service one afternoon...and some time later we're going "Hey where's M---?" He never came back. Or the time(s) a server(s) called in "Mentally Ill" (you all know who you are!!) We've done our share of firing - never, ever a wonderful experience, for any of the parties involved - but nothing could top Kevin firing a Cook who was sick in the Hospital at the time. That was Cold. But overall we try to treat people with respect and confidence. It's a proven morale builder, and the opposite is just as much a morale killer. We have worked for both types of restaurant people and I always say I learned just as much from that Evil Boss as I did from the Best. Almost more. I had this job....Anyway...Our present life of leisure is soon to be over. It will be one year that we've been home from WeGo and we never expected to be on our Sabbatical for this long. It's been terrific to spend time with the people we care about, to have the time at home to enjoy the Cat and the Dog, and to do things on the weekend like normal working humans...but man, this restaurant thing better turn out, seeing as we've had over two years to get it right this time!!Pictures:
Roof parts ready to go up:

And up they go.

And soon we will be "covered". Hurrah!!

<The picture to the far left is the window looking into the DR...and the one to the near is looking out. It's going to make a very nice addition, this huge window of light.

< The window will be covered by this barn door, when necessary. But I don't see that happening too often!
<Kevin
and
Kath.
They are looking out the window in the "bathroom" hallway.

<Still hard to tell there
is going to be a kitchen in there somewhere, isn't it? Use all the imagination you've got!!

The DR is certainly cluttered with equipment, it's just not restaurant equipment! And finally, even the deck gets a roof!
Anyway, that's all for now! Posting these pictures with Dial-up has taken most of the day so far, and I know (from experience) that the end result will not quite be what I'm looking at on my Edit Page, but so be it...you'll figure it out! Hope to be back next week with more exciting scenes that I know you can't wait to see!
